Its only a lioness who can raise up lions. Upbringing plays a major role in molding and directing the life of a child. The very first teacher is the mother. She is not only the very first but also the most sincere teacher a child can ever get. She would go to any lengths to see that her children attain the best and excel in everything. What was it that put Khansa at a different level? Lets find out.
Khansa (RA) was the best poetess in Arabic and no women has ever written poem better than her.
She is not only famous for her poems, but also because of her heroic actions during the battle of Qadisiyyah which was fought between the Muslims and the Persians. Khansa together with her four sons took part in this battle. On the eve of that battle, she (RA) gathered her sons and said;
“O, My sons! You embraced Islam and emigrated of your own free will. By Allah, beside Whom there is no God, you all are the sons of the same father, just as you are the sons of the same mother. I never betrayed your father. I never allowed a blot to come on your high birth nor polluted your pedigree. You know what rewards Allah has promised for those who fight againtst the disbelievers in His path. You must remember that the everlasting life of the Hereafter is far better than the transitory life of this world. Allah has said in the Qur’an;
O ye who believe! Endure, outdo all others in edurance, be ready and observe your duty to Allah, in order that Ye may succeed. [3:200]
When you get up tomorrow morning, be prepared to contribute your best in the battle. Go ahead into the enemy lines, seeking help from Allah. When you see the flames of war rising high, get right into the center and face the enemy chiefs. Insha’Allah you will get your abode in Paradise with honor and success.”
Next day, when the battle was in full swing, all her 4 sons advanced towards the enemy lines. One by one, they attacked the enemy, reciting the words of their mother in verses and fought until all of them were martyred. When Khansa (RA) got the news, she said;
“Alhamdulillah. Glory to Allah Who has honored me with their martyrdom. I hope that Allah will unite me with them under the shade of His Mercy.”
SubhanAllah! This was the attitude of Sahabias. They didn’t mind if their father or sons or husbands passed away during battle. Instead, they thanked Allah! For they knew that, InshaAllah, they would meet in Jannah.
How many of us are have little bit of this deen is our life now? What can we do to become a better Muslim?
- Patience- We need to be patient all times. Allah swt will test us! But we should remember, ‘They plan, Allah plans, and Allah in the best of planners’. We need to know that Allah will never test us with something we can’t bear and that He is All Knowing. One should also realize that Allah loves those who are patient.
- Remember Akhirah- We need to remember this world is not the end. There is a life after this. It is Ever lasting. This is where we get reward for all our deeds.
- Gratitude- Thank Allah always! Never forget to say Alhamdulillah. Remember that there are people who are worse than us.
May Allah make us steadfast like the Sahabias and grant us Jannathul Firdous. Ameen.
